Twitter users were astounded to learn that you can use any card in a hotel's electricity slot

Is this just an Irish thing?

WHEN YOU’RE STAYING in a hotel (especially if it’s one in Ireland), sometimes you’ll find that the hotel room does not have electricity.

This issue is immediately resolved when you stick one of the hotel’s key-cards into a little slot on the wall. In fact, it doesn’t just have to be a key-card. It can be any card. It’s simple enough.

But, apparently there are thousands of people who never knew that a regular card will work in the place of a key-card. This was revealed when Twitter user @Oog uploaded a photograph of her Waitrose loyalty card doing the key-card’s job.

She received hundreds of responses from 1) people who had no idea that hotels actually ask you to leave your card in a slot if you want to use their electricity and 2) people whose minds were blown that any card will work in these slots.

So. Did you know that you could use any card in the electricity slot?

Poll Results:
